Tax Notices being mailed October 31, 2024

October 28, 2024
Duval County Tax Collector Jim Overton announced that 2024 tax bills are being mailed on Thursday, October 31st, and property owners can expect their bill to be delivered to their mailbox within the coming days.

As seen in previous years, the number of customers visiting the nine tax collector branches in the county will rise significantly as property owners begin to receive and pay their tax bill. To avoid the wait, property owners can make payments online (no fee for e-check) or by mail. 2024 tax bills are open on the website (www.duvaltc.com) and payments are already being accepted. To pay in person at any of the Tax Collector’s nine locations, customers can “Join the Line” for same day service or make an appointment (not required) on the website. A drop box is also available at all locations; however, cash payments are not accepted in the drop boxes.  As a reminder, credit card payments, whether made in person, by phone or online, impose an additional fee of 2.5% or $2.50 minimum paid to the credit card company.

Property owners who pay by November 30th will receive a four percent discount. A three percent discount is offered if paid by December 31st, two percent discount if paid by January 31st and one percent discount if paid by February 28th. Property owners are responsible for paying their taxes by the March 31st deadline to avoid penalty.

“Online payments are the quickest, easiest and most efficient way for customers to pay their tax bills,” Overton said. “Customers who have a need to pay in person are asked to use the Join the Line feature on www.duvaltc.com which allows them to add themselves to a virtual online queue prior to arriving at the branch to reserve their place in line. Once the customer is in the queue, they will receive text message updates regarding their place in line and will be notified when they should arrive at the branch for service.”

When mailing their payment, customers should note their 10-digit account number on their check. Please do not staple or paperclip the check to the payment stub, as this will prevent the payment from being processed automatically and delay receipt. Checks should be made payable to Duval County Tax Collector and mailed to PO Box 44009, Jacksonville, FL 32231-4009.

Annually when the approximately 378,000 tax bills are mailed, the Tax Collector’s Office temporarily experiences high call volume in its call center, 904-255-5700.  Property owners are encouraged to email their question to taxcollector@coj.net. The email team is standing by to answer questions.  Many answers can be found on the Tax Collector’s web site at www.duvaltc.com.

Each year a substantial number of tax bills are returned as undeliverable, as property owners change addresses and forget to notify the Property Appraiser’s Office of their new mailing address. To make official address changes to the tax roll, taxpayers should download and submit a change of address form from the Property Appraiser’s Office at www.coj.net/pa, or email PACustServ@coj.net

Even if they do not receive a property tax bill in the mail, the property owner is still responsible for paying his or her taxes by the March 31st deadline to avoid penalty. Property owners who do not receive a bill should visit www.duvaltc.com and select “Property Taxes” to find and pay their bill online, or email taxcollector@coj.net to find out the amount owed.
