Important Dates to Remember

Motor Vehicles

  • Motor vehicle and vessel registrations are valid until midnight of the first registered owner's birthday.
  • Renewals are accepted 90 days prior to the birth month.
  • Late fees are applied on the 11th day of the month following the birth month (for a birthday of March 3rd, the late fee will apply on April 11th).  Note: A citation may be written any time after the birthday.

 January 

  • Two percent discount granted for current Real Estate and Tangible Personal Property tax payments  made by January 31st.
  • Forms 1099 are mailed out by January 31st for all registered bidders who received interest income from tax certificate redemptions.
  • Late fees are applied January 11th on tag renewals that expired in December of the prior year.

February 

  • One percent discount granted for current Real Estate and Tangible Personal Property tax payments made by the last day of February.
  • Late fees are applied February 11th on tag renewals that expired in January.

 March  

  • Full gross amount is due for current Real Estate and Tangible Personal Property taxes. Payment must be made by March 31st.
  • Fourth and final installment payment for Real Estate and Tangible Personal Property Taxes is due by March 31st.
  • Late fees are applied March 11th on tag renewals that expired in February. 

April

  • Current Real Estate Property Taxes that are unpaid on April 1st become delinquent and are assessed an additional 3 percent interest charge on the gross tax amount plus fees.  
  • Current Tangible Personal Property Taxes that are unpaid on April 1st become delinquent and are assessed a 1.5 percent interest charge on the gross tax amount plus fees.
  • New applications to participate in the installment plan for current Real Estate Property and Tangible Personal Property Taxes are due by April 30th. Participants currently enrolled in the installment plan do not need to re-apply. 
  • New Local Business Tax Receipts are pro-rated for a half-year beginning April 1st.
  • Late fees are applied April 11th on tag renewals that expired in March.

May

  • The list of delinquent Tangible Personal Property Taxes as of April 1st will be advertised in a local newspaper. This list will include the owner information, location address, and amount due.
  • The list of delinquent Real Estate Property Taxes will be advertised once per week for three consecutive weeks prior to the Tax Certificate Sale in a local newspaper. This list will include the owner name, legal address, and amount due.
  • Tax warrant processing begins on all unpaid Tangible Personal Property Taxes as of May 1st. An additional 1.5 percent interest is assessed on the gross tax amount plus a warrant processing fee.
  • Registration for interested bidders opens for the OnlineTax Certificate Sale. Visit www.duvaltaxsale.com for more information.
  • Online Tax Certificate Sale is conducted for all unpaid Real Estate Property Taxes.
  • Late fees are applied May 11th on tag renewals that expired in April. 

June 

  • First installment payment for Real Estate and Tangible Personal Property Taxes is due by June 30th.
  • Company vehicle/vessel renewals are due by June 30th.
  • Late fees are applied June 11th on tag renewals that expired in May. 

July

  • Five percent penalty assessed on first installment payment not made by June 30th.
  • Local Business Tax Receipt renewals begin July 1st.
  • Late fees are applied July 11th on tag renewals that expired in June. 

August 

  • Participants in the installment plan who did not make the first installment payment are dropped from the installment plan and will need to re-apply for the following year.
  • Late fees are applied August 11th on tag renewals that expired in July. 

September 

  • Local Business Tax Receipt renewals are due by September 30th.
  • Second installment payment for Real Estate and Tangible Personal Property Taxes is due by September 30th.
  • Late fees are applied September 11th on tag renewals that expired in August. 

October 

  • Local Business Taxes become delinquent October 1st.  Late fees applied.
  • Late fees are applied October 11th on tag renewals that expired in September. 

November
 

  • Collection of current Real Estate Property Taxes and Tangible Personal Property Taxes begins.
  • Four percent discount granted for current Real Estate and Tangible Personal Property tax payments  made by November 30th.
  • Late fees are applied November 11th on tag renewals that expired in October. 

December 

  • Three percent discount granted for current Real Estate and Tangible Personal Property tax payments payments made by December 31st.
  • Third installment payment for Real Estate and Tangible Personal Property tax due by December 31st.
  • Registration and renewal of trucks and tractors over 5000 pounds, nine-passenger, and other vehicles-for-hire due by December 31st.
  • Renew decals for mobile homes that are not assessed as Real Property due by December 31st.
  • Late fees are applied December 11th on tag renewals that expired in November.
